Leading blockchain intelligence firm, Arkham has unveiled a new dashboard analysing the holdings of some of the world’s top crypto whales. The dashboard’s data reveals that the top five identified crypto whales collectively possess approximately $3.5 billion in crypto assets. However, a substantial portion of this wealth, around 35% or $1.21 billion, has been classified as ‘inaccessible’ due to lost passwords and private key compromises.

The latest data reveal comes amid reports that real-world asset tokenization protocol Grand Base, has suffered a staggering $1.7 million in losses after a private key compromise.

At the forefront of the crypto whales list stands Justin Sun, the man behind the Tron network, with reported holdings amounting to $1.06 billion in his crypto wallet. Sun’s holdings are primarily composed of his own stablecoin, Decentralized USD (USDD), and a significant amount of Tron’s native token, TRX.

Following closely is Rain Lõhmus, the founder of Estonia-based LHV Bank, with holdings valued at $769 million in Ether. In November 2023,  Lõhmus revealed that he had lost the password to a wallet with 250,000 ETH.

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, holds the third spot on the list with a wallet containing $757 million, largely comprised of Ethereum (ETH). Among the notable figures included in the top five is Stefan Thomas, the former Chief Technology Officer at Ripple, who encountered a major setback in 2011 when he lost access to over 7,000 BTC owing to a forgotten password.

James Fickel, a prominent crypto venture capitalist, stands at the fifth position with holdings standing at $436 million in crypto.

Recently, Arkham also released data on the cryptocurrency holdings of countries, with the United States government emerging as the largest whale, holding 212,847 BTC, valued at approximately $15 billion based on current market value.
