World Liberty Financial plans to bring USD1 stablecoin to key online platforms

Share IT

Executives from World Liberty Financial (WLFI) laid out plans to extend USD1 stablecoin payments to major online businesses during a panel at Token2049 in Singapore on Wednesday. The discussion brought together WLFI CEO Zach Witkoff, co-founder Zak Folkman, and Bam Azizi, co-founder and CEO of payment infrastructure provider Mesh.

During the panel, Azizi revealed a new partnership between Mesh and WLFI that would let holders of USD1 spend the stablecoin directly across Mesh’s merchant network. The companies are targeting a rollout sometime this quarter.

Folkman described the partnership as just one piece of a larger push. “Beyond the use of the World Liberty app itself, we are already in plans to roll out this exact same technology to some of the largest Web2 businesses that are in the marketplace,” he said.

WLFI, which is backed by the Trump family, is working to extend its payments technology toward large Web2 companies, with an eye toward enabling payments to drivers, contractors and content creators. USD1 sits at the center of this strategy, with roughly $4 billion to $4.4 billion of the stablecoin currently in circulation across the Ethereum and BNB Chain networks.

The company has also been building out supporting infrastructure. Its AgentPay SDK is designed to support autonomous, self-custodial transactions, while a separate product, World Swap, is being developed as a forex and remittance platform that aims to lower transaction fees by relying on stablecoin rails rather than traditional payment systems.

On the regulatory front, WLFI has been making significant strides with the firm recently securing preliminary approval for a national trust bank charter. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said in an August 14 decision that it had granted preliminary conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Company, National Association. Under the proposal, the bank would be based in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of WLTC Holdings LLC, a company registered in Delaware.

WLFI has also signed a memorandum of understanding with MOA Protocol aimed at expanding how USD1 is used in remittances and transactions involving AI agents, with South Korea identified as a possible early market for that expansion.
