With tech giants like Microsoft and Google stepping into the Metaverse, Yahoo is also gearing up for the same. The announcement came a day after Meta Platform revealed its metaverse plans. 

Yahoo has shared its plans to launch activities related to Metaverse and non-fungible tokens in Hong Kong. Plans of hosting a series of virtual events and concerts for the residents in the Decentraland Metaverse in the region are also underway. The head of the audience of Yahoo Hong Kong, Lorraine Cheung said that this plan is an exciting alternative for the residents and will give them a break from the pandemic restrictions and to “retain humanity using technology.” 

He further stated, “We hope to use the Metaverse to connect people regardless of time and physical location.” 

The company has plans to put up an exhibition of the work of local artists which will represent the historic neighborhood of Kwun Tong and the impact on the place after redevelopment in a virtual manner. 

On June 14, Meta also shared plans of creating a “first-hand” metaverse experience for residents by collaborating with local startups and organizations including cafes, schools, and art galleries.
