Madonna has launched a new NFT collection in collaboration with renowned digital artist Beeple. Madonna took to Twitter to announce the new NFT collection, which will be up for auction on the SuperRare NFT marketplace on May 11 at 3 pm PST / 6 pm EST. She further added that all proceeds from the NFT collection sale would benefit The City of Joy, Black Mama’s Bail Out, and The Voices of Children Foundation.
The exclusive collection named “Mother of Creation,” showcases three distinct motherhood-inspired facets of life. The NFT collection includes 3 single-edition NFTs, all of which feature videos of Madonna giving birth to various essential aspects of humanity. According to the Mother of Creation website, “These 3 NFTs are a labor of love a year in the making, as both artists partnered to connect to the idea of creation and motherhood through these visualizations.”
The first NFT named “Mother of Nature” is focused on plant life. In the released video, Madonna can be seen lying on a laboratory bed giving birth to a tree that starts to blossom when it comes out of her body. The second NFT, titled “Mother of Evolution,” is focused on animal life. In this video, Madonna is sitting in a vehicle in the middle of a crumbling city, with her legs spread open and several butterflies coming out from her insides. The third NFT, named “Mother of Technology,” focuses on technological advances and shows Madonna lying in the middle of a forest with a series of biomechanical centipedes coming out of her vagina and walking up down her arms.
Madonna talking about the new collection, said, “Using the opening of each video is essentially me giving birth, whether I’m sitting on a tank in a post-apocalyptic city or I’m in a hospital bed in a very sterile laboratory environment, I’m doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth.” Beeple, commenting on the recent development, tweeted, “INSANELY HONORED to have collaborated with @Madonna on this project. Excited for the world to see this one.”
In March, Madonna announced her foray into the Metaverse on Twitter when she purchased her first NFT, a Bored Ape. The Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT has been her Twitter profile picture ever since. Several music icons have also recently entered the web3 and NFTs space, including Nirvana, David Bowie, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, etc. The recent NFT launch comes at a time when crypto markets have been witnessing a hard time, with Web3 cryptos taking a tumble.
