According to a press release published on Tuesday, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has joined Chainlink Labs as a strategic advisor.

Schmidt oversaw Google for more than a decade, first as CEO from 2001 to 2011 and then as executive chairman from 2011 to 2015. Between 2015 and 2017, he was the executive chairman of Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company.

Chainlink is a secret ingredient to unlocking the potential of smart contract platforms and revolutionizing business and society,” said Schmidt. “I am excited to be helping the Chainlink Labs team build a world powered by truth.”

Schmidt will assist Chainlink Labs, the developer behind blockchain oracle solution provider Chainlink, in achieving its multi-chain interoperability ambitions, according to an announcement shared with The Block.

Oracles in the DeFi space usually provide knowledge on an asset’s pricing. They can, however, be put to additional uses in terms of delivering real-world information, such as sporting events and weather data.

In October, the Associated Press teamed up with Chainlink to place journalistic data on the blockchain.
