Key Takeaways:

  • Coinbase is creating a trilogy on The Bored Ape Yacht Club.
  • The creator of the collectibles is not involved with the production.
  • Coinbase is not hoping for a profit from this series.

After Netflix’s thrilling documentary ‘Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King’, the crypto community is gearing up for another exciting project. This time it will be a three-part animated series from Coinbase that will feature several characters from the NFT series and will bear the name “The Degen Trilogy”.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club will have its film trilogy and the first part will premiere on June 20 and 23 at NFT.NYC. The owners of the NFT can submit their apes for the selection of characters in the animated short film and submissions will be accepted until April 13 at 11 am PST. The film website also mentions that the selected owners will receive a licensing fee of $10,000 in apecoin or bitcoin. In addition, they will also have to send descriptions of the characters so that the casting director can review them. However, both apes and non-ape owners of the community will be allowed to help develop the plot.

For the promotion of the exchange, Coinbase has announced that they would make the movies ” wallet-gated” just after their release, meaning that interested audiences will first have to create a Coinbase wallet. In addition, some controversies are rising about Yuga Labs, the creator of the NFT collectible series not being directly involved with the production of the film.

The theme of the film is “chaotic” and the prologue reads, “for the first time, digital goods and services have outpaced all other indicators as a measure of value in the market.” “As the old system crumbles, whole new realms spring forth from the ashes. (…) Enter the Degens. A new class of social adept, versed in the constantly re-invented tools of an ever accelerating economy,” and it continues.

Coinbase has said that they are not expecting a huge turnover from this project. However, if they receive any, it will be donated to a non-profit organization. It also said that the goal is to, “reward and connect with our communities through projects that bring the ethos of Web3 to life: collaboration, transparency, and opportunity.”
