A recent story states that a Colombian court recently conducted its first legal proceeding within the Metaverse, with the court magistrate remarking that it felt “more real than a video call.”

A court case featuring participants in a traffic dispute was held in the Metaverse on February 15 according to a Reuters report that was released on February 24.

The case, which lasted for two hours and involved a regional transit union suing the police, will be “partially” heard in the metaverse, with a chance that the decision will also be made there. In a digital courtroom with Magistrate Maria Quinones Triana dressed in formal black robes, the players were represented by avatars.

Quinones told Reuters that it felt more “real than a video call” and that Colombia is one of the first nations in the world to try out judicial procedures in the metaverse. The use of the metaverse in legal processes still has a long way to go, according to Juan David Gutierrez, a professor of public policy at the University of Rosario in Colombia. He said to Reuters:

“You need a hardware to do this that very few people have. And that prompts questions about accessibility to justice and equality,”

Judges in Colombia, according to Gutierrez, are looking for solutions to the nation’s overburdened judicial system.

“We create this illusion that technology is going to make things more efficient, but sometimes, it’s the opposite.”

This comes after a CoinWire survey from January 16 that found 69% of participants believed the metaverse would eventually alter social lifestyles due to new methods of entertainment and activities.

Into the Metaverse: The Essential Guide to the Business Possibilities of the Web3 Era author Cathy Hackl predicts that the real world component of the metaverse will materialize within the next ten years. If that is taken into account, then, according to Hackl, “the metaverse will have a significant effect on how we socialize.

The World Economic Forum (WEF), which took place in January, was noted for its use of metaverse experiences, enabling attendees to participate in “Global Collaboration Village” sessions that are fully immersive in three dimensions.

The nation is one of the first in the world to test actual court proceedings in the metaverse, immersive virtual reality that gives online environments a more realistic feel and frequently uses avatars for each player.
