Key Takeaways:

  • Airbnb is offering a free stay for 100,000 Russian refugees.
  • Visa and Mastercard have blocked Russian financial institutions from their network.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the latter has been receiving immense support from around the world. On March 1, Ukraine announced in its official Twitter handle that it is now also open to accepting Polkadot and Dogecoin donations after receiving a considerable amount of donations in Cryptocurrencies.

Airbnb has also lent the country a helping hand during these challenging times. On Monday, the company announced that it would arrange free short-term housing for 100,000 Ukrainian refugees. Brain Chesky, the CEO of Airbnb, posted on Twitter, “Airbnb and Airbnb.org are working with our Hosts to house up to 100,000 refugees fleeing from Ukraine for free.”

This whole set-up will be funded by several companies, donors, and hosts on the company’s platform and has the vision to provide long-term stays for the refugees with the help of neighbouring European states.

“We need help to meet this goal. The greatest need we have is for more people who can offer their homes in nearby countries, including Poland, Germany, Hungary and Romania. If you can host a refugee, go here: http://airbnb.org/get-involved”, said Chesky.

Along with such help, Ukraine is also receiving support from various financial organisations in the measures it wants to take. For example, a few days back, Ukraine imposed sanctions on the ruble and asked crypto exchanges to refuse service to Russians.

Though Coinbase didn’t comply with the country’s request, Visa Inc and Mastercard Inc have blocked several financial institutions in Russia from using their network.
