  • In response to the government’s desire to eradicate “dirty money” in the nation, NCA’s action seeks to increase awareness of crypto assets in the U.K.

The National Cyber Crime Section (NCCU), a cyber-focused command of the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom, is prepared to introduce a special crypto unit tasked with preemptively looking into cybercrime incidents in the U.K. including the use of cryptocurrencies. This action aims to focus more on crypto crimes and deter illicit activity.

Director of NCA infrastructure investigations Chris Lewis-Evans stated that the chance involved “working in a team at the forefront of defending the U.K. from cyber crime” and that it was “very exciting“.

He made a point that Virtual assets and cryptocurrency are both regarded as specialized fields of knowledge, and this function is essential to aiding NCA investigations into how these are exploited to facilitate severe wrongdoing.

Due to the prominence of crypto assets in the realm of cybercrime, the spokesperson stated that the NCA has already been routinely engaged in inquiries connected to these assets.

According to the UK National Crime Agency’s annual report covering the period from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, criminals increasingly used financial technology and cryptocurrency assets for money laundering, harming the country’s institutions and economy.

By March 31, 2022, the agency seized cryptocurrency valued at £26.89 million, or roughly $32.4 million.

The deadline to apply for the new position is January 10. Qualified candidates will be required to have experience in blockchain forensic investigation.

The new NCA crypto superhero will be responsible for advising detectives on both the practical and strategic aspects of cases involving cryptocurrencies, helping both ongoing and fresh investigations.

Proficiency in locating and recovering seed phrases as well as sophisticated blockchain tracing are requirements for the position.

The United Kingdom is making more progress than ever in the field of blockchain and cryptocurrency and aspires to become the industry’s center.

Rishi Sunak, the current prime minister and favorite of the cryptocurrency community, has always been an enthusiastic advocate of cryptocurrencies and a big advocate of the measures necessary for the development of web 3.

The UK recently announced that foreign investors who purchase cryptocurrencies through local investment managers or brokers will be excluded from paying taxes.
